THE FEAST OF ST JOSEPH - the patron saint of La Spezia, is held on 19th March but celebrations here last for 3 days. Many of the city's streets are resplendent with culinary delights, leather goods, clothes, jewellery and animals all in a great carnival atmosphere. In celebration of this feast, guests are also welcome to visit the Town Arsenal.
LIGURIA WINE FESTIVAL - Every last weekend of June, there is a festival dedicated to wine production and the typical products of Liguria. The festival takes place in the heart of the city of La Spezia in Corso Cavour and is dedicated to the promotion of DOC and IGT wines of Liguria in addition to the culinary excellence of the territory. There are stands of over 150 wineries from La Spezia, Imperia, Genoa and Savona. The event is organized by the Municipality and the Province of La Spezia, La Spezia Chamber of Commerce, Company Fairs of the chamber, the Liguria Region and Unioncamere Liguria.
JAZZ FESTIVAL - During the Summer months the La Spezia International Jazz Festival takes place and is one of the oldest and most important events of the jazz scene in Italy.
THE GULF REGATTA - Known as 'Il Palio del Golfo' this regatta is the main event of the sports scene and is held on the first Sunday of August. In fact, this Gulf Regatta has been held in the gulf of La Spezia on the first Sunday of August for 83 years! The Regatta is part of the 'Festival of the Sea' with many maritime vessels of the sea-faring regions overlooking the Gulf of Poets taking part including Portovenere, Le Grazie, Fezzano, Cadimare, Marola, CRDD - Circle Recreational Defense Employees, Canaletto, Fossamastra, Muggiano, San Terenzo, Venere Azzurra , Lerici and Tellaro. The event has become an important event on the sporting, cultural and tourist horizon, and is now known beyond regional boundaries.
THE NAVAL FESTIVAL - will be held from 3rd to 6th October 2013 this year for the presence of the Tall Ships Regatta. The Festival is an event that takes place in La Spezia dedicated to sailing of motor boats and vessels of past sailing periods, the construction and crafts related to them, sports, ecological science, fictional and non-fictional literature and all manner of other entertainment. The Festival lasts for 4 days and enjoys a full program of racing; exhibition of historic boats; visits to ships; meetings with authors, scientists and personalities from the world of the sea; exhibitions; shows; music; and also food in the village of the Naval Festival and the centre of La Spezia. |
