A spectacular jeep trip to discover the quarries from which the precious and unique Carrara marble is extracted for over 2,000 years.

You will discover the techniques, the history, the millennial villages of the quarrymen, their habits, their language, food and everyday life.

During the journey there is also a stop in the small village of Colonnata to discover the famous "Lardo di Colonnata".

There are two types of services:

CARRARA TOWN & MARBLE TOUR

The tour includes:

• Client pick-up from Carrara-Avenza train station
• Transfer to the Fantiscritti Quarries
• A tasting of the famous Colonnata Lard at the Ristorante il Poggio (adults only)
• 30-40 minutes of free time to visit the museum/shop/laboratory at the Fantiscritti Quarry
• Transfer to Carrara
• 1 hour free time in the historical town centre
• Transfer back to Carrara-Avenza train station

Rates

Minimum of 2 people

€ 65.00 per Adults person

€ 25.00 for Children up from 6 to 12 years

€ 15.00 for Children up to 6 years

The Quarryman Breakfast (included)

At the end of the tour we are going to offer the special “Quarryman Breakfast” at the restaurant Il Poggio (on reservation), experiencing the typical meal of local miners! Discover the real lardo di Colonnata I.G.P., the traditional herbed backfat that is left to age into white marble vats in the near village of Colonnata. You can taste it cut into thin slices laid over a piece of toasted bread, accompanied by a glass of red wine. A chance not to miss in the unforgettable frame of the Carrara marble world!

Departure time to be agreed. The duration of the visit is about 3 and a half hours.

CARRARA MARBLE TOUR

The tour includes:

• 4x4 off road vehicle up to 8 seats (plus driver)
• 50-minute tour of the marble quarries above Carrara

Tours are leaving every 20/30 minutes from Piazzale di Fanti Scritti.

Rates:

€12.00 per person (adults)

€6.00 for children up to the age of 6

It is possible to arrange a pick-up from Carrara-Avenza train station starting from €50.00 return.

The Quarryman breakfast

At only additional €8.00 you can try the special "Quarryman Breakfast" at the restaurant il Poggio, the real lardo di Colonnata I.G.P, cut into thin slices and laid over a piece of toasted bread, all served with a glass of red wine.
